Upcoming Events: March 2017

Avoid the green beer, there’s a whole lot of (way better) whiskey to be had this St Patrick’s Day. Find out where to celebrate the day and drink, plus a few of our other favourite non-whiskey March events in Melbourne below.

  1. First up on the whisk(e)y train is The Bitters Lab. They’ve roped in Boilermaker House’s head bartender Max Allison to teach a Whiskey Cocktail Masterclass. Learn how to best make old and new mixed drinks and take home some bittered goodness to experiment with.

Thursday 9 March / Fitzroy / Bookings

2. Don’t know about you but we’re already itching for an Autumn road trip. 19 North East Victorian wineries are providing the destination with Tastes of Rutherglen. Expect winery hopping, behind the scenes tours, classes on everything from vino to gin to coffee to muscat cocktails, plus add-on dinners and parties by night.

Saturday 11 & Sunday 12 March / Rutherglen / Bookings

3. The inaugural Melbourne Donut & Beer Festival. We don’t need to twist your arm much do we? Be prepared; there will be a different doughnut line up at Village Melbourne over two days. They’ll even have coeliac and  vegan options.

Sunday 12 & Monday 13 March / Melbourne / Details

4. The Whisky Social presents Whisky Heretics at Paris Cat. Discover the makers doing things a bit – or a lot – differently and ruffling feathers in the world of whisky. You’ll also get a quintet of top shelf drops to try.

Thursday 16 March / Melbourne / Bookings

5. On the eve of St. Patricks Day, Martin Lynch, Teeling Whiskey Co’s Australian ambassador, will guide a Teeling appreciation evening at 1806. Sample a cocktail on arrival, four tastings, sharing platters and cheese.

Thursday 16 March / Melbourne / Bookings

6. Jameson ambassador Max Hart will host a one hour Whiskey (Irish of course) masterclass at Plus 5 for St Pat’s. Five tastings will help the history lesson go down. We recommend you pair this event with the below for a roving whiskey experience.

Friday 17 March / South Wharf / Bookings

7. Meat Market will host a Whiskey degustation dinner again with Jameson ambassador Max Hart at the helm. Cocktails on arrival kick start four courses of dishes paired with Glenlivet, Aberlour and new Jameson whiskies. It’s amazing value for two of you (only an extra $20 to take a friend!)

Friday 17 March / South Wharf / Bookings

8. Loch & Key are throwing a St Pat’s party featuring Teeling whiskey cocktail specials – boozy Shamrock Shakes anyone? – and Irish tunes (including Celtic punk). Hearty Irish fare like colcannon mash, Guinness beef pies and even Irish inspired early-morning kebabs will fortify you for a long night.

Friday 17 March / Melbourne / Details

9. Hot Dub Wine Machine bring their rather civilized disco to Rochford Estate. A 9 hour long DJ line-up (headed by Pnau Miami Horror) will play soundtrack to much wine tasting and picnic hampering. And then of course getting down beside the vines.

Saturday March 25 / Yarra Valley / Bookings

10. After this month you’ll certainly be in need of a wind down. Or “wine down” as Vinyasa + Vino has dubbed it. This one day retreat is a collaboration between Polperro Winery and Hot Hut Yoga studio and pairs various yoga and wine experiences. That’s our kind of workout.

Friday 31 March / Red Hill / Bookings
