Don’t be fooled by the rather “weathered” street level entrance. Once you alight from the elevator, what a pleasure it is sip a passionfruit-scented cocktail upon the airy, white-washed rooftop of Mon Bijou. Officially launching as a special events space this week; the lower level is more akin to Mon Bijou’s bejewelled Parisian moniker. It’s all vast glass windows and reflective surfaces bathed in a spectrum of glossy colour. Which makes one feel as though they are the tiny ballerina inside a rather lush trinket box. The heady fragrance of hydrangeas lingering in the air, combined with expansive views of the city certainly define the space as distinct from its former life as the old Deck 10. Continuing the French theme is Mon Bijou’s menu designed by Embrasse chef Nicolas Poelaert accompanied by sweet nothings by Le Petit Gateau’s Pierrick Boyer (whatever that finale coconut-y silver-leaf concoction was; I want to bathe in it).
Mon Bijou can be discovered at Level 10 & 11, 187 Flinders Lane, Melbourne.
