If one is an anomaly and two’s a coincidence will a third Nordic space soon make a Melbourne bar trend? Following closely on the footsteps of Denmark House opening Bar Dansk comes Du Nord. Swede Thomas Kiltorp is the founder of the new bar which I find less glitzy and more serene than his previous offerings; Saint, Red Hummingbird, Emerald Peacock, Collection. Taking over the old Softbelly neighbouring the Hardware precinct, Du Nord offers a list of cocktails rotating weekly alongside beers imported from Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Scandinavian films playing in background set off the deceptively smart design of the bar. There’s plenty of places to rest your glass while you dig into a smorgasbord platter or down a slider, and menus are never far out of reach – which makes Du Nord ideal for groups of friends to recline and regale. The use of pale timber, white tiles and exposed brick make for cool, calm and collected barfly experience.
Find Du Nord at 367 Little Bourke Street, Melbourne.
