1. Spirit of the Wild

Embrace – rather than endure – the final month of winter at The Boatbuilder’s Yard pop-up.  Heat up with nightly campfires, cosy blankets, made to order s’mores and seasonal cocktails. Additionally, Friday 2nd August sees Wild Turkey Ambassador Luca Baioni host a bourbon masterclass complete with history, tastings, cocktails, mulled wine and smoky bbq.

2. From Cane to Glass Cocktail Competition

Come witness the Victorian state final of Rum Diary Spiced’s cocktail competition at Beneath Driver Lane. The best bartenders in Melbourne are making original rum cocktails and vying to win a prize of creating their very own rum – under guidance from the RDS team – and enter it into the World Rum Awards. P.S. I’ll be there judging!

3. Bartender vs Chef Dinner

Trinket launches a new midweek cocktail-matched dinner series where their bartender contends with their chef to see who can come up with the best dish or cocktail over three courses. Each cocktail dinner will be unique, exploring different ingredients. The debut of the series showcases native Australian ingredients. Next up in September will be chocolate…

4. All Day Cocktails Book Launch

Renowned drink-makers Shaun Byrne and Nick Tesar are officially launching their new low and zero-proof cocktail recipe book at Worksmith ELLA.  Join them (over drinks, naturally) to get geeky about sustainability, making drink ingredients from scratch and the low ABV beverage movement. 5. Archie Rose Distilling Co. Masterclass 

Sydney distillers Archie Rose visit Promise for this masterclass and tasting of their core range including gins, vodka and un-aged rye “whisky”. You’ll be among the first to try their brand new and much sought-after Rye Malt Whisky and a sold out past release gin too.

6. World Rum Day Dinner

Scandinavia meet the tropics as viking-influenced venue Mjølner collaborates with Rum Diary Spiced rum (one day early) for World Rum Day 2019. A celebratory feast of four courses will be accompanied by specially created rum cocktails to toast to this hallowed occasion.

7. Talk & Taste: Starward

At only $30 a pop, this tasting session was such good value I simply had to share it. Each month Pilgrim Bar hosts a session with a different local drink maker. Up next is Starward and the event includes two whisky cocktails, four tastings (including a secret whisky) and masterclass as well as tasty bites from Pilgrim’s kitchen.

8. Elemental Dinner Series: Fire

Mjølner presents the third in their year-long elemental dinner series. We’re had water and wind-inspired feasts already. Now comes fire! Each of their Nordic four courses in their fire-laden dining room will be match with a fire-influenced cocktail. Is it getting hot in here?

9. Whiskey Business

Taxi Kitchen had us at the promise of “lots of whiskey”. They’re putting on a long, boozy, 5-course lunch accompanied by the live sounds of jazz, blues and soul. There you’ll find whiskey neat, in cocktails and even popping up in your food. Whiskey-butter soused lobster, anyone?

10. Mary’s Scrumptious Gin High Tea

Mary Eats Cake unveils a new grown-up high tea series each showcasing a different boutique gin distiller of Melbourne. Enjoy a trio of cocktails in fancy glassware, a proper high tea (yaaassss, bottomless scones!), gin chat and specialty teas. Up first is Anther with high teas featuring Tiny Bear and Brogan’s Way to follow.

11. Graze & Grains

Farmer’s Daughter’s restaurant (coming in 2020) showcases their local, farm-to-table philosophy at Starward. The distillery opens up a rarely seen space to host a mini fresh-produce market (pssst…cheap whisky tonics with every purchase), wood-fired dishes and whisky cocktails exclusive to the day. Entry is free.

12. Timboon Distillery Whisky & Spirits Masterclass

Meet the Maker Events hosts Timboon’s distiller Josh Walker for this immersive evening at Grape & Grain. Try their single malt whiskies as well as – for those of you who are rather more sweet-toothed – the distillery’s cream liqueur, limoncello, schnapps and vanilla-infused vodka.

13. Gin Queen on Tour – Melbourne Gin Company

Grab your coveted spot aboard the Gin Queen’s bus quick-smart as these tours always get snapped up. This time she’s visiting Melbourne Gin Company out in a secret location in the Yarra Valley.  At the distillery – not typically open to the public – you’ll tour, taste and try a light lunch before heading back to Gin Palace for one last tipple.
