BARS NEWS (+ other new things our ‘to drink’ list this month):

  • Seek out new gins from Great Ocean Road (their debut release ‘Guvvos’ with a hint of salt), Poor Toms (a pretty in pink strawberry gin) and Memo gin (using the skin of coffee fruits, from Melbourne Moonshine).
  • Melbourne based Toji sake has released the second expression of their lovely sake, a junmai ginjo style (it’s more wallet friendly too!)
  • Designers Denver & Liely have added third glass to their line up. This one’s for bourbon lovers, inspired by their recent American roadtrip.
  • Australian Superfood Co have unveiled 8 native fruit and herb extracts – Kakadu Plum, Davidson Plum, Riberry, Finger Lime, Wattleseed, Lemon Myrtle, Aniseed Myrtle and Strawberry Gum. We can’t wait to use them like bitters in cocktails.
  • Devil’s Distillery has released their first whiskey titled Hobart Whisky; it’s a single malt aged in bourbon casks with tasting notes of “honeycomb”.
  • New Sydney rum distillery Brix Distillers has opened with a trio of white, aged and (coming soon) spiced rum.
  • Bye bye #cleaneating. Chocolatiers Koko Black have created The Australian Spirits Collection; a box of chocolates filled with Starward’s whisky, Four Pillars’ gin, Rum Diary’s rum and Melbourne Moonshine’s..moonshine.

Opening a bar soon or unleashing something delish? Let us know, so we can let the locals know! sarah@drinkmelbourne.com.au
